Daredevil: Born Again – Episode 1
The episode kicks off with Matt (Charlie Cox), our favorite blind lawyer-slash-ninja, enjoying a rare moment of peace with his friends Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) and Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) at Josie’s Bar. They’re celebrating their associate Cherry’s retirement because, apparently, lawyers have retirement parties like normal people and not, you know, secret rooftop brawls with crime bosses. But the happiness doesn’t last long because Bullseye (Wilson Bethel), aka the human aimbot, decides to crash the party in the worst way possible—by throwing things at people. Unfortunately, in a devastating turn of events, Foggy is hit, and well... he doesn’t make it. Cue sad music and Karen’s tragic movie-style slow-motion scream.
Matt, now running high on a mix of grief and blind (pun intended) rage, goes full Daredevil mode and chases down Bullseye. A rooftop fight ensues, complete with acrobatics, bone-crunching punches, and probably a lot of internal monologuing about justice. The fight ends with Matt tossing Bullseye off the roof like he’s taking out the trash. But instead of feeling victorious, he’s left feeling, well… like garbage himself. The whole ordeal makes him question his existence (again), and in true dramatic superhero fashion, he vows to hang up the horns.
One Year Later…
Matt has officially swapped his Daredevil suit for boring lawyer suits and is now practicing law with former district attorney Kirsten McDuffie (Nikki M. James). He’s also got a therapist, Heather Glenn (Margarita Levieva), because, let’s be real, the man has enough trauma to fill a Netflix documentary series. Meanwhile, Karen has moved to San Francisco, probably to start a new life where people don’t get assassinated every other Tuesday.
But guess who’s back, back again? Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio), now legally in power. That’s right Kingpin isn’t just running crime anymore; he’s running the city as the newly elected mayor of New York. I mean, who needs to rule from the shadows when you can rule from City Hall? His wife Vanessa (Ayelet Zurer) is by his side, ready to turn Hell’s Kitchen into, well… something worse than Hell’s Kitchen.
As Matt struggles to stay out of trouble and resist the urge to put on the red suit again, Fisk wastes no time tightening his grip on the city. The last time he was in power, Matt barely made it out alive. Now, with legal authority and a political agenda, Fisk might just be unstoppable.
Cameo Alert!
News anchor Pat Kiernan makes an appearance, giving a breaking news update about Fisk’s election victory. At this point, Kiernan should just be an honorary MCU character.
And that’s how Episode 1 sets the stage: a grieving Matt, a powerful Kingpin, and a city about to spiral into chaos. But let’s be honest—Matt’s “I’m done being Daredevil” phase never lasts long.
To be continued…
