Death of a Unicorn

"Death of a Unicorn" is an upcoming American comedy horror film written and directed by Alex Scharfman. The movie is set to premiere at the South by Southwest Festival on March 8, 2025, and will be released in U.S. theaters by A24 on March 28, 2025.

The trailer begins with a serene night-time drive, as Elliot (Paul Rudd) and his teenage daughter Ridley (Jenna Ortega) journey to a weekend retreat. Their calm is abruptly shattered when they collide with a unicorn, instantly killing the mythical creature.The scene shifts to the retreat, where Elliot's employer, Dell Leopold (Richard E. Grant), is introduced. Leopold, a pharmaceutical magnate, sees the unicorn's carcass as a golden opportunity, given its horn's purported cancer-curing properties. His intentions to exploit the unicorn's magical attributes set the stage for ensuing conflicts. 

Paul Rudd as Elliot: A father trying to navigate the complexities of his relationship with his daughter while dealing with the bizarre aftermath of their accident.

Jenna Ortega as Ridley: Elliot's teenage daughter, who becomes entangled in the ensuing chaos following the unicorn's death.

Richard E. Grant as Dell Leopold: Elliot's employer, a pharmaceutical CEO with ambitions to capitalize on the unicorn's unique properties.

Will Poulter, Tea Leoni, Anthony Carrigan, Sunita Mani, Jessica Hynes, and Steve Park round out the supporting cast, contributing to the film's dynamic narrative. 

The film is set to make its world premiere at the South by Southwest Festival on March 8, 2025, followed by a U.S. theatrical release on March 28, 2025.   

With its unique blend of dark comedy and horror, coupled with a stellar cast, "Death of a Unicorn" is poised to be a standout film in 2025.
