Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Episode 1: "Amazing Fantasy"
The first episode wastes no time throwing us into the action. We meet a young Peter Parker (voiced by Hudson Thames) as he starts at a new, prestigious high school. Unlike the typical nerdy outcast portrayal, this version of Peter is more socially awkward than outright bullied. He crosses paths with Nico Minoru, a fellow student who seems to have her own mysterious background.
But before Peter can even settle into his new routine, things take a wild turn. A massive portal rips open in the middle of the city, unleashing a giant spider monster along with none other than Doctor Strange (voiced by Robin Atkin Downes). Amid the chaos, a radioactive spider from the portal bites Peter—changing his life forever.
This episode does a fantastic job of setting up Peter’s world while keeping the pacing tight. We get quick glimpses of important characters like Aunt May, Norman Osborn, and even hints at Oscorp’s growing influence. The animation style leans heavily into classic comic book aesthetics, making it feel like a love letter to Spider-Man’s origins.
